Summary/Objective

The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for originating new residential mortgage business by building relationships and soliciting realtors, builders, mortgage brokers, and new customers. This position is responsible for meeting loan sales and cross-selling standards and objectives defined by management, and is responsible for the residential mortgage loan from application to closing.

Essential Functions

  1. Continues relationships with current referral sources and establishes new relationships with realtors, builders, mortgage brokers, and new customers.
  2. Takes FHA, VA, and conventional loan applications and matches the appropriate loan product with borrower's needs while providing a high level of customer service.
  3. Completes applications with secondary market and correspondent lenders, as well as portfolio loans for the bank.
  4. Analyzes applicant information to determine if borrower, property, and loan conditions meet the bank's and outside investors' required standards.
  5. With support from the loan support staff, ensures loan files are complete and documented in accordance with bank policies.
  6. Establishes required terms and conditions on approved loans.
  7. Attends loan closings, as applicable.
  8. Manages the loan portfolio; including credit quality, credit approval, operations process, and profitability. This also includes maturities/extensions, delinquencies, and tickler items.
  9. Maximizes fee income associated with loans and maintains an interest rate structure in accordance with overall bank management policies.
  10. Manages construction loans, including inspection and lien waiver requirements.
  11. Maintains a strong knowledge of the Bank's policies and procedures, identifies any deviations from policy, and ensures compliance with all required regulations and policies.
  12. Stays up to date with current trends and market factors affecting mortgage lending.
  13. Consistently demonstrates appropriate interpersonal communication skills with customers, coworkers, and outside vendors.
  14. Follows all Unison Bank policies and procedures.
  15. Regular and reliable attendance.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role. The employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position. The employee is occasionally required to move about inside the office. The employee is regularly required to handle files and documents as well as regularly operate a computer and keyboard. The employee is regularly required to communicate with customers and other staff members and exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and reviewing/inspecting documents.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

5 years of mortgage lending sales experience.

Must be NMLS registration eligible.

Preferred Education and Experience

Mortgage banking experience. Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field.
