The Director, Payroll and Benefits will report to and work closely with the SVP, Human Resources to develop / deliver comprehensive and competitive Benefits programs for Shift4.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of market dynamics, health & wellness benefit plan designs, and have experience engaging, motivating, developing and retaining employees. Experience with mergers and acquisitions is vital for this position.

The Director, Payroll and Benefits will report to and work closely with the SVP, Human Resources to develop / deliver comprehensive and competitive Benefits programs for Shift4.

- Direct the strategic design, planning, implementation, communication and administration of the full range of payroll and health & welfare benefits, including retirement (401K) programs.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Payroll and Benefits team.
- Identify and execute on opportunities to make payroll and benefits activities/processes more streamlined and efficient while ensuring they are competitive in the marketplace to support recruitment, engagement and talent retention.
- Implement Payroll & Benefits strategies related to business growth (M&A, new markets, and special initiatives).
- Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies and programs to foster employee understanding and appreciation of the value of company total rewards.
- Overseeing payroll process to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions. Regularly audits records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Own the health, welfare and retirement plan strategy, annual design and cost-modeling reviews, budgeting, and provide expertise to the Leadership team, acting as fiduciary of our 401(k) plan.
- Select, monitor, evaluate, and manage all benefits vendor relationships.
- Partner with the company's external benefits consultants to analyze and evaluate plan renewals for cost effectiveness, negotiate for improved services and offerings to maintain the company's Total Rewards competitive position.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; guide team members on routine audits to ensure benefits are administered consistently and qualified under applicable tax codes if applicable.
- Ensure all plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) are complete and updated; Form 5500 filings are filed accurately and timely; required notices are distributed to employees; lead efforts to plan and perform discrimination testing and oversee annual plan audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field of study.
- A minimum of 8 years prior work experience in Payroll and Benefits in a leadership role.
- Experience leading a geographically dispersed employee workforce.
- Demonstrated leadership skills; proven ability to model desired work values and practices for team members and create a work setting that encourages both individual and team accomplishments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of 401(k) fiduciary responsibilities as well as payroll/tax concepts and principles.
- A substantive knowledge of/experience in federal and state law, compliance requirements in HIPAA, COBRA regulations, FMLA, ADA, ERISA,and general HR practices.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; proven ability to research, follow up and resolve complex issues and problems surfaced by the team.
- Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple competing tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working for publicly traded companies is preferred.
