Position Overview:
The digital strategy officer will be responsible for setting up, implementing, and managing the overall organization's digital communications strategy to raise awareness about the FNIH brand and its reach and impact in biomedical science and patient outcomes including its leadership, its programs, training initiatives, and events (including fundraising). Reporting to the director, communications, this role will develop content and visuals for daily FNIH social media postings and intermittent social media campaigns, the FNIH website, and all other digital vehicles including eNewsletters and eBlasts. Additionally, this role will analyze and improve audience reach from and traffic to all FNIH digital platforms, leverage the latest and most effective methods for digital outreach, and increase the digital footprint and engagement of all key stakeholder groups globally. The digital strategy officer may also advise on and assist with internal digital forums and newsletters as we build our internal communications program. This position will work closely with the Communications department and other program and administrative staff at the FNIH in a collegial and collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement the overall FNIH digital marketing strategy to reach the variety of FNIH audiences and support fundraising.
- Build social content and channel strategies to best engage key audiences from research partners and scientists, key opinion leaders, philanthropic individuals and foundations, patient advocacy groups, NIH employees and leadership, FNIH employees, and science- and health-engaged consumers.
- Develop a content calendar in collaboration with our team and agency partner.
- Create and upload - with support as available - day-to-day social media posts.
- Oversee the organization's social media accounts, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, including monitoring of all accounts.
- Guide and counsel executives on social media and partner with the CEO to develop a social media platform.
- Create implementable social media toolkits for use by FNIH teams and outside partners, and actively encourage their participation in amplifying FNIH news.
- Source and create graphics/visuals/ videos for FNIH digital platforms as well as oversee outside vendors to develop social graphics and videos and create a library of assets.
- Design, schedule, and send FNIH eNewsletters, announcements, and other eBlasts as needed. Evaluate our mailing lists and approach to eBlasts.
- Stay current with the latest digital technology, key trends, and best practices; research products, services, and strategies to identify new opportunities.
- Measure ROI and KPIs and deliver analytics reports to leadership and program managers bi-monthly, collaborating with them on refining their social strategies.
- Prepare and manage the digital advertising budget, including Google Ads.
- Manage and improve online content-considering SEO and Google Analytics/Tag Manager-providing solutions that boost web presence.
- Proactively suggest new campaigns.
- Monitor competition and provide suggestions for improvement.
Education & Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital technologies or relevant field.
- 6 - 8 years of related professional experience as a digital communications strategist, social media analyst or similar role.
- Demonstrated experience in building a brand image across the digital space required.
- Experience in developing and implementing digital marketing strategies in the biomedical science or health policy fields desirable; non-for-profit experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of all digital marketing channels relevant to the FNIH.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with online marketing tools and best practices.
- Excellent writing, design, and editing.
- Skill at telling compelling stories of science through digital media.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with SEO/SEM, Google Analytics, and CRM software.
- Familiarity with web design and HTML.
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant tools; CMS management; and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, or comparable graphic design tools.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical and project management skills.

- Focused and motivated self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of biomedical sciences and experience translating complex scientific material into digestible, lay-friendly language and graphics is highly desirable.
