We provide a stewardship role in the proper care of all outdoor facilities. We are prompt, efficient, and professional in appearance and duties. We "tailor make" our services and are immediately responsive to our diverse clientele.Job Purpose:Perform Sprinkler/Landscape Specialist core duties on a Monday – Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. PDT – 3:30 p.m. PDT.Core Duties*:Employees in this classification work under the direct supervision of a supervisor or a higher-level employee or Lead.Employees in this classification independently maintain, repair and install sprinkler systems and landscape elements throughout the campus. They also maintain decorative and landscape fountains while monitoring the fountain water levels, circulation and clarity.Sprinkler/Landscape Specialists receive minimal supervision; they must be able to identify issues and determine corrections for significant repairs or installations. Systems are both technical and manual; employees must understand, and problem solve within both. Consults with lead and/or supervisor to implement corrective actions.May assume lead’s role during the lead’s absence.Estimate types of materials and quantities needed on a daily basis; assist with estimates for projects including the take-offs of materials and labor hours.Install complete irrigation systems.Install filters, concrete pads, enclosures, and controller pedestals.Perform maintenance duties on the weather station (including cleaning of the gauges) and take appropriate action to resolve issues and/or concerns.Respond to emergency calls regarding irrigation related problems.Troubleshoot centralized computer control systems.May perform any of the duties described in the Sprinkler/Landscape Tech II specification or other duties as assigned.Adhere to safety rules.*Other duties may also be assignedEducation & Experience:High School diploma or GEDThree years sprinkler/irrigation and landscape experience required or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to install, design and maintain landscape and irrigation projects from plan development to completion with little or no guidance.Ability to read project plans and estimate materials from plans as needed.Working knowledge of water pressure, hydraulics, high and low flow systems and basic electricity.Ability to troubleshoot and repair controller, valves, wiring and other computer components involved in irrigation systems and fountains.Detailed knowledge of the design of irrigation systems in use at Stanford and the capabilities of the components used in these systems.Ability to operate current computer program to obtain work orders.Ability to use various equipment to prepare and recover sites.Demonstrated strong communications skills (both verbal and written). Ability to understand and follow job-related instructions either verbally or in writing.Horticultural industry related certification is preferredComputerized central control system training certification preferred.Confined space certification or obtain certification within 30 days of placement preferred.Certifications and Licenses:Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.Physical Requirements:Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.Working Conditions:Required to wear appropriate issued uniform.Ability to work safely in all types of outside weather conditions.May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including holidays.Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stop/squat, kneel/crawl, grasp forcefully and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-20 poundsOccasionally perform seated work, use a telephone, reach/work above shoulders, perform work which require light/fine grasping, and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-40 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.Rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), perform desk-based computer tasks, operate hand and/or foot controls, write by hand and/or sort/file paperwork or parts.May rarely use a jackhammer or trenching machine.Maybe exposed to noise greater than 80db TWA.May be exposed to allergens, pollens, dust and fertilizers, pesticides, acids, alkalis, disinfectants and/or Algaecides.Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Work Standards:When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.The expected pay range for this position is $36.98 to $44.72 per hour.
