Department Overview

The employees of the Enterprise NERC Compliance (ENC) team ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers acting as the central compliance organization for PG&E’s NERC Compliance program. ENC supports the reliability of PG&E's Bulk Power System (BPS) by promoting and assisting with adherence to NERC Standards.

ENC partners with functional areas across the company that are responsible for implementation of NERC standards providing guidance, oversight and expertise.

Position Summary

The Principal Compliance & Risk Consultant is a critical leader within the Enterprise NERC Program, exhibiting exceptional knowledge of NERC O&P subject matter. The Principal Compliance & Risk Consultant aids in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Enterprise NERC Program through direct coordination with adjacent Functional Areas (FA) that own one or more Reliability Standard Requirements.

The Principal Compliance & Risk Consultant will work with Subject Matter Experts and Standards Owners to develop processes and controls to ensure that departments are prepared to perform regular compliance activities and comply with applicable Reliability Standards. The Principal ensures consistent use of compliance related data systems, measures results, monitors controls and keeps records of all regulatory compliance filings.

In order to drive buy-in of the compliance framework, the Principal may lead cross-functional teams and engage in activities such as clarifying responsibilities and commitments, hand-offs, training and communication. The Principal may also act as a liaison for PG&E, working directly with regulatory agency staff who are assigned to investigate specific aspects of The Company’s compliance practices.

This contributor will be required to read, interpret and implement compliance requirements across a variety of disciplines across the span of NERC’s authority. Strong organizational and reading comprehension skills are essential to the successful accomplishment of tasks this contributor will be given. Outreach activities, including hosting stakeholder meetings with management, are core to the role, lending to the need for strong communication skills.

Familiarity with the structure of NERC Reliability Standards, FERC Orders, WECC compliance management processes, CAISO tariffs and other compliance-related documentation is required. Experience in operations (including NERC certification), engineering and/or planning is highly desirable. Familiarity with PG&E’s functional role within NERC and their compliance obligations is highly desirable. The Principal is expected to coach and mentor more junior staff and at times, supervise other’s work.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

Job Responsibilities

Anticipates issues and develops innovative solutions to enhance controls and mitigate risks.

Anticipates changes in the regulatory environment or other developments which may impact compliance or risk management and takes action to prepare the organization.

Acts as consultant to internal and/or external groups in order to benchmark company performance and promote knowledge of compliance and risk management best practices.

Challenges business decisions and present risk mitigation alternatives, as appropriate.

Updates senior leadership on status of compliance / risk management programs and partners with leaders across the organization to strengthen organization-wide effectiveness.

Participates in risk management forums at the enterprise level.

May act as team lead but does not have any direct reports.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

10+ years of relevant experience

Desired:

Master’s degree

Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or other compliance and risk related certifications

NERC System Operator certification (RC or TOP)

LSS-Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification

Analysis, communication (written and verbal) and group collaboration skills with the ability to lead teams and promote employee engagement

Ability to develop and deliver training curriculum

Experience writing and reviewing legal documents and reports

Ability to monitor, gather and analyze information, determine potential impacts and recommend responses to burgeoning challenges

MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Visio experience

Working knowledge of SAP Work Management
