Essential FunctionThe Sr. Director of Compensation is responsible for directing the strategic planning, design, implementation, maintenance, regulatory compliance, communication, and administration of all corporate-wide compensation programs consistent with the organization’s human capital and company’s business objectives.
Primary Duties
Develop and manage companywide compensation programs including base pay, bonus, commissions, merit increases, short and long-term incentive plans, and equity programs that support company’s pay for performance.
Champion the communication and education of total rewards programs throughout all levels of the organization including the design and implementation of communication tools to improve understanding and value of programs.
Design and recommend executive compensation programs, including base salary, short- and long-term incentives and equity compensation. Develop and monitor performance metrics tied to executive compensation to ensure alignment with company performance and shareholder value. Ensure all executive compensation practices comply with applicable laws and regulations, including tax and reporting requirements.
Provide leadership, support and mentoring to the HRBPs and Business Leaders in all areas of total compensation.
Conduct job analysis to determine appropriate market pricing; review and approve salary increases and advise management on compensation actions for associates.
Primary resource for information, problem solving, and communication to senior management as it relates to the architecture and strategy development for all areas pertaining to corporate, executive and equity compensation.
Analyze company compensation policies in relation to similar jobs in comparable industries or geographic areas, and recommend changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive pay rates and ensure equity.
Establish salary structures, develop salary budget, and prepare policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive associate compensation.
Ensure programs are current regarding trends, practices, and costs.
Lead and mentor a team of compensation professionals providing guidance, development, and performance management.
Develop pay systems that are industry competitive and enable management to focus on and reward individual and group performance.
Ensure alignment of incentive/reward elements with culture, strategy, and operational imperatives.
Participate in development and administration of performance review system to ensure compliance with salary administration guidelines.
Establish operational objectives and work plans, and delegate assignments to subordinates.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in human resource, business, preferred, or equivalent combination.
Progressive compensation experience including Executive Compensation in a mid to large-size organization - 10 years plus preferred.
Experience leading and developing multiple levels of compensation associates.
Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Oracle HCM preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Access. Must be able to create professional documents using Word and PowerPoint. Must be able to create spreadsheets containing formulas, be able to create pivot tables, and use charting.
Knowledge, understanding, and application of Federal and State employment laws: ERISA, FLMA, FLSA, EEO, etc. required.
Strong knowledge of compensation practices, regulatory requirements, and market trends.
Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or similar certification is a plus.
International compensation experience is a plus.

Strategic thinker with deep expertise in the design, analysis, development, implementation, management and administration of all types of compensation programs (executive, corporate, stores and distribution centers, all other associates).

Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, cooled, and ventilated.
