Overview: The Division of University Advancement is responsible for all friend-raising and fund-raising at Northern Illinois University. The area of Advancement Operations manages over 500,000 entity records housed in the NIU Foundation’s constituent relationship management system, along with associated paper and digital files. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing our data-driven decision-making processes to advance the university’s mission and goals.Position Summary: Northern Illinois University’s Division of Advancement seeks a strategic and innovative Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics to join our Advancement team. This pivotal role will support the university’s fundraising efforts by providing leadership and expertise in data analysis, business intelligence, and comprehensive reporting solutions.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Data Management and Reporting – 30%Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that supports the advancement division’s fundraising, financial and engagement goals.Work with appropriate stakeholders to produce and disseminate clear, actionable reports and dashboards for both strategic and operational use.Consistently review progress towards goals to identify efficiencies and new opportunities.Navigate multiple systems, including CRM, Marketing Cloud, LexisNexus and others, to create fully comprehensive reports and analysis.Technical Leadership and System Management – 30%Establish and grow all business intelligence and analytics efforts for the NIU Foundation, setting priorities and managing projects to ensure timely delivery of high-quality analytics and reports.Design and maintain an effective data architecture to optimize data warehousing, mining, and analytics.Manage the selection and implementation of business intelligence tools and systems, including CRM and data visualization tools.Research and leverage emerging technologies (like AI) to maximize efficacy of work within data services, fundraising, and engagement.Collaboration and Compliance – 20%Collaborate with IT and advancement leaders to enhance data integration and ensure data integrity across multiple platforms.Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.Training and Development – 20%Train and mentor staff in data analytics and reporting best practices.Stay abreast of trends in data analytics and higher education fundraising to continually improve the department’s capabilities.Provide guidance to colleagues and junior staff members.Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or related field.Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data analytics or business intelligence, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.Proven experience in managing business intelligence in a fundraising or higher education environment.Additional Requirements (SPS)Strong understanding of database management, data warehousing, and advanced proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and influencing senior leadership.High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion; provide ability to apply good judgement and responsible decision-making.Preferred Qualifications (SPS)Experience with CRM systems used in higher education, particularly those relevant to advancement activities.Expertise in Salesforce reporting and CRM data management.Knowledge of predictive modeling techniques and tools.Familiarity with fundraising metrics and reporting standards.Applications submitted after
