Senior Software Engineer - Mapping.The Senior Software Engineer role in Mapping at Aurora blends technical excellence and design to deeply contribute to some of Aurora's most exciting challenges. The right candidate will utilize modern C++ software development skills along with Python and cloud-based pipelines to deliver solutions which allow for fast, nearly automatic construction of the map data for the Aurora Driver. A deep understanding of large-scale processing pipelines, cloud storage, 3D algorithms, and geometry manipulation will be used to create the HD map for the Aurora Driver.In this role you will:

Write high-quality, highly testable code in a fast-paced environmentOwn workstreams across several verticals in the Offline Mapping systemContribute to the development of a scalable and robust mapping framework and associated tooling.Engage with numerous teams across the org and external partners.Contribute to engineering best practices in a large and complex code base.Work closely with operational teams to refine highly critical production-level systemsRequired Qualifications

Domain expertise in areas related to Robotics, Computational Geometry, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and/or Cloud ComputingKnowledge of linear algebra, computational geometry, numerical methods and/or projectionsStrong software development skills using modern C++ (11, 14, 17, 20) and PythonExcellent communication and people engagement skillsBS or higher degree in robotics, computer science, software development, mathematics, or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience4+ years of experience in autonomous vehicles, mapping, simulation, robotics, motion planning, localization, controls, computer vision or machine learningDesirable Qualifications

Masters/PhD in computer science, robotics, mathematics, or another mapping related fieldSufficiently good development skills in PythonExperience with Lie groups (modern geometry)Experience writing localization or runtime mapping (i.e. simultaneous localization and mapping, SLAM) softwareThe base salary for range for this position is $168,000-$252,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
