Opportunity at a Glance

The Regulatory Affairs Consultant supports the department’s efforts to ensure that the organization’s institutions operate in compliance with federal and state regulations and internal policies. With a special focus on student funding, this consultant role participates in senior and operational level strategy meetings to provide timely guidance that ensures regulatory requirements are realized during the brainstorming and planning phases for business changes, as well as for necessary corrective actions to resolve issues identified organically or arising from audits/program reviews (organizational, program, and policy). The consultant’s expertise in financial aid-related rules and regulations, coupled with in-depth knowledge of our institutions’ program offerings, policies and operations ensures strategies and new processes are compliant.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates advanced competency in performing complex regulatory work and demonstrates advanced knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, guidelines and industry practices.

Works with all levels of colleagues within our institutions and centralized functional areas to ensure processes, procedures, internal and external reporting and communications are developed in compliance with federal, state and internal standards and regulations.

Represents Regulatory Affairs in institution meetings to provide regulatory guidance and recommendations for the organization’s programs and initiatives.

Communicates information to colleagues throughout the organization on new/upcoming regulatory requirements to ensure awareness and timely adjustments to policy &/or procedures as may be needed.

Provides deep compliance support to business, Audit Services and auditing entities for all external and internal audits/reviews, including oversight of corrective action plan development and implementation.

Serves as Regulatory Affairs team leader to business on multiple concurrent, complex projects.

Demonstrates ownership of regulatory compliance of funding programs such as federal and nonfederal student aid, veteran’s benefits, state grant programs.

Collaborates with institutional colleagues to secure and manage funding eligibility for new programs & locations, as well as ongoing participation renewal applications.

Assists Regulatory Affairs Director with escalated questions and projects as assigned; acts as a delegate to the Director in their absence.

Monitors and approves revisions the organization's financial aid-related written policies and procedures to ensure requirements remain observant to all current federal and state regulations and internal standards.

Frequently prepares and delivers issue summaries/presentations to senior management.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree Required and Master's Degree Preferred

At least 6 years of experience in a federal/state regulated environment; experience in higher education financial aid regulatory compliance preferred

Experience with Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel, Teams and internet applications

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, analytical, verbal and written communication skills

Is a detail-oriented, creative problem-solver; flexible with shifting & competing priorities

Can demonstrate a consistently great work ethic in a high productivity environment

Writing samples may be required

Desired Additional Knowledge

Familiarity with Title IV rules for proprietary institutions both domestic and foreign

Understanding of Title IV treatment for a variety of program structures

Experience with financial aid-related audit support activities

Knowledge of military-related funding programs such as Veterans Benefits & Dept of Defense

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $53,520.90 and $93,918.96. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
