We are committed to cultivating an inclusive organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.The OpportunityReporting to the Network Security Principal Engineer, the Senior Network Engineer follows best practices and IT security protocols, and provides key input on infrastructure-related design, procurement, and deployments. This is a rewarding opportunity for a highly capable and self-motivated engineer to make vital contributions to support world-class science in a high-profile and growing privately funded network of research institutes with national and increasing global significance.This position will assist in and support the design, deployment, and ongoing management of both wired and wireless network services across a multitude of enterprise systems and foundational IT infrastructure at multiple sites, supporting a High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure (both on-premises and cloud) optimized for life sciences research.This position will command a wide variety of networking technologies, including routing and switching, firewalls, wired, wireless, and optical networks. Primary responsibility for the network includes the routers, switches, cable plant, and wireless infrastructure. The Senior Network Engineer's responsibilities include installation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, support, and optimization of all wired and wireless network hardware, software, and communication links.The successful candidate communicates clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, management, and external contacts, and follows up to problem solve and troubleshoot computer problems on their behalf. The successful candidate is motivated and self-driven, and works alongside other IT Engineers of all levels to understand and to help to meet the unique technology needs of the Biohub.What You'll DoMonitor, manage, and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks and network services locally, and at remote sites.Assist in the design of and support the deployment of new network infrastructure at existing and future Biohub sites.Work closely with members of the Security team to ensure that all network components, infrastructure, and connected devices are secure.Support peers, colleagues, and other IT engineers in troubleshooting complex cross-functional issues.Provide second-level support to help-desk engineers for network and network service-related issues.Apply security patches and system upgrades as necessary for security and consistency.Perform necessary configuration changes and system and network maintenance within and accordance with change management policies and practices.Some occasional travel may be required.What You'll BringBachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.A minimum of 6 years of experience in networking.Extensive experience installing, configuring, and maintaining network equipment, including but not limited to Juniper switches and routers.Experience with next-generation firewalls and security protocols.Thorough understanding of communication protocols and network security concepts.Thorough understanding of network services like DNS and DHCP, and experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols.System administration and troubleshooting experience with one or more UNIX variants, with an understanding of change management philosophy and patch cycles.Experience with network monitoring tools and the ability to monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve problems.Proven experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and remediating complex network issues.Thorough understanding of and direct experience with physical networking, cabling types, and connectors and transceivers.Experience with wireless network configuration and optimization, including heat mapping, AP placement, achieving ideal signal levels, and channel tuning.Excellent written and oral communication skills and documentation practices to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Ability to work on multiple tasks and respond to rapidly changing priorities.Nice to have -Relevant experience in research or higher education environments.Automation skills and Network-as-Code experience.Experience working in and with Scientific Computing and High Performance Computing environments.Experience with Palo Alto Networks.Experience designing, deploying, and supporting Infiniband Networks.Experience designing in greenfield and deploying initial infrastructure out-of-box.Compensation$165,000 - $181,500.New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity. We may also adjust this range in the future based on market data.
