Genentech/Roche is leading the industry with respect to the investment in R&D. We drive one of the largest and most promising pipelines. Over the last few years Genentech/Roche grew a significant portfolio of cell and gene therapies: from vector based therapies to mRNA based cancer vaccines to autologous and allogeneic T-cell therapies and regenerative cell therapies. In order to provide leadership for this complex portfolio we created this new role.

As the Head of the CGT Product Strategy you will be leading the community of our Technical Development Leaders (TDLs) and Product Strategy Leaders (PSLs) as well as driving the development of capabilities relevant for CGT to successfully deliver our pipeline of CGTs and to commercialize our products in this area. As this field is growing rapidly and technologies are changing at a high pace you are embracing these changes, you are curious about the challenges and opportunities and help the organization to develop strategies to deal with it.

As a member of the Roche PTC Leadership Team you will play a key role in developing, shaping and implementing the overall technical strategy of our company in the Cell & Gene Therapy space.

Key Responsibilities & Job Requirements

As the Head of the CGT Product Strategy you will drive strategies for the development and commercialization of our CGT products together with Technical Development Leaders (TDLs) and Product Strategy Leaders (PSLs). You are expected to form a strong community that enables fast learning in an evolving field. Moreover, you will work with key stakeholders and partners across the company as well as with external partners to advance our portfolio.

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Lead, coach and develop the community of Technical Development Leaders and Product Strategy Leaders with the aim to evolve and prioritize the CGT global portfolio ensuring a cohesive strategy across the various stages of the development and product lifecycle.
  • Lead the development of the PTC capability roadmap in alignment with the portfolio progression and the envisaged network strategy. Drive decisions on where Roche should invest in technical capabilities and where we should rely on third parties.
  • Develop product specific development and commercialization strategies and a clear plan where and when to install technical capabilities to deliver our portfolio of cell and gene therapy projects.
  • Build a strong network across PTC, PTD and with our partners in R&D and align these partners behind agreed upon development strategies for products and technical capabilities.
  • Manage the interface with stakeholders in the R&D and PT environment to ensure the delivery of our products.
  • As a member of Joint Steering Committees work with our external partners to shape development and commercialization strategies.

Education & Experience:

  • MsC/PhD in Life Sciences or Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry with 5+ years of people leadership experience including leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in managing the E2E value chain for Cell and Gene therapy products and understanding how CMC can help address the challenges of commercializing CGT products successfully.
  • Anticipate future trends in the industry and prepare Roche for being a leader in CGT.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach a team of experienced senior leaders.
  • Collaboration/Influence Management, Decision Making, Leadership and Results Orientation.
  • Ability to strongly influence with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, and bring teams to consensus/alignment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to a diverse set of stakeholders inside and outside of the company.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional & multi-location teams.
  • Ability to learn quickly in unfamiliar territory and to deal with ambiguity.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $218,300 to $405,500. Annual actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
