N Street Village is seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team in a full-time capacity. The Psychiatric Nurse will deliver comprehensive nursing care to clients seeking mental health support within our Low Barrier Shelter and Wellness Center. This role involves evaluating clients' physical and psychiatric needs, developing individualized treatment plans, administering prescribed medications, and providing supportive health education and counseling. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to holistic care and demonstrate expertise in addressing the complex needs of individuals with diverse mental health concerns.

Key Role Responsibilities

Assessment and Diagnosis:

Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including physical and mental health evaluations, to establish a baseline understanding of the client's condition.Utilize evidence-based assessment tools to accurately measure symptoms and functional impairment.Formulate accurate diagnoses based on assessment findings and develop individualized treatment plans.Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.Clinical Interventions:

Facilitate individual counseling sessions, support groups, and educational workshops on fostering wellnessImplement evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address the client's specific needs and symptomsProvide crisis intervention and stabilization for clients in distressCollaborate with other healthcare professionals and staff to ensure comprehensive careAssist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and patientsPromote a supportive and therapeutic atmosphereClient Education

Provide comprehensive education to clients regarding medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence strategiesAddress client concerns and questions related to medication managementMedication Prescription and Administration:

Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications based on thorough assessments and clinical judgmentMonitor client responses to medications, adjusting dosages or regimens as needed to optimize treatment outcomesEnsure accurate and safe administration of prescribed medicationsDocumentation:

Maintain comprehensive and accurate clinical records, including assessments, treatment plans, appointments, prescriptions, medications, and other relevant findingsAdhere to all applicable federal and state legal and ethical standards for psychiatric nursing practiceCollaboration and Consultation:

Work closely with interdisciplinary team members (case managers, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals) to ensure integrated careParticipate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss client progress, coordinate treatment plans, and make appropriate referrals to community resourcesEstablish and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance service delivery and access to resources for clientsMaintain confidentiality and tact in all interactions with clients and staffProfessional Development:

Stay current with best practices in psychiatric nursing and mental health care through ongoing professional development activities.Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.Key Agency Responsibilities

Formal Education, Training, and Licensure

Holds an advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner programPossesses a valid District of Columbia Nurse Practitioner licenseMaintains a valid controlled substances certificate of registration from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)Holds a valid District of Columbia controlled substances registrationExperience

At least one year of experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing, preferably in a community or non-profit settingDemonstrated proficiency in applying psychiatric nursing techniques and principlesStrong assessment, diagnostic, and clinical skillsFamiliarity with community resources and facilities serving individuals with mental or physical health needs in the District of Columbia is a plusSkills

Strong knowledge and understanding of DSM-5-TR for accurate diagnosis and treatment planningProficiency in providing culturally sensitive, client-centered, and trauma-informed care to a diverse populationAbility to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including those commonly found in homeless populationsExcellent communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with clients, staff, and community partnersStrong interpersonal skills, including empathy, compassion, and the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgroundsStrong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
