Position Purpose:

The Pharmacist is the medication expert within the healthcare system.The hospital pharmacist helps provide effective patient care by facilitating the safe use of appropriate medication therapies to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The hospital pharmacist is an integral component of the medical team, providing accurate and reliable healthcare service and advice to physicians and their patients. Supervises pharmacy technicians under him/her. Able to precept pharmacy students if registered with the state board of pharmacy as a preceptor.

Summary of Duties (not all inclusive)

Communicates correct dosages, possible drug interactions, and risk of side effects before medications are administeredKeeps up to date with the patient's medication chart and ensures that the correct medications are given to the right patient and that proper protocols are followed, Including checking on proper doses and how often tablets, inhalers, injections, infusions, ointments and creams are administeredComplies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the State board of pharmacy, Drug Enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspectionResponsible for monitoring the supply of medicines in the hospital. Qualifications

License to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of Texas (required)Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (required)At least one year post graduate experience (preferred)
