Requirements
The Role
We are excited to attract a Technical Manager. This position will report to our Plant Manager and will focus on the development of new products and optimization of existing products' performance and costs.
Job Responsibilities
Trial Management
:
•Develop trial plan (to include ensuring raw materials are readily available and are in accordance with the plant Chemical Approval Process).
•Ensure that the necessary FGs are in place.
•Conduct pre-trial review of plan with operations.
•Assess the condition of line that trial is to be performed on and communicate before conducting the trial the necessary repairs needed to ensure a successful base to work from.
•Prepare guidance for shift prior to trial to ensure line is ready to go shortly after shift change.
•Conduct the trial (to include capturing of line conditions during the trial and any changes made).
•Prepare and distribute a summary of the trial. Emphasis needs to be placed on whether the trial achieved customer specifications and what changes, if any, would be necessary to the process in order to proceed to a commercial order level.
Sales Support:
•Price quote preparation.
•Onsite customer visits as needed.
•Collaboration on new products and conduct market sample analysis (testing and technical analysis of samples from competition & OEM's).
Inventory Management
•Strategy to address slow moving/obsolete resin/packaging material inventories.
•Accountable for resin substitutions and ensure ERP system Microsoft AX is reflecting the changes made.
Operations Support & excellence:
•Evaluate daily the previous 24 hours' performance against standards.
•Review PM program with the Maintenance Manager to ensure the integrity of the program will achieve the KPIs.
•Identify opportunities for optimal output to include specifying the equipment, obtaining pricing and preparing CapEx request. Sponsor said projects.
•Consult with OEM on equipment issues that cannot readily be resolved.
•Validate training program.
•Assist maintenance in troubleshooting equipment issues.
•Support in the assessment of new technologies (production machines, packing etc..)
•Set the yearly KPI's for the technical unit and direct reports with HR.
•Prepare and conduct evaluation and performance reviews to direct reports.
•Implement the 5S practices within the technical unit offices.
•Follow-up on management system audits and findings (related to technical unit) as scheduled.
•Optimize products performance vs. cost based on feedback from market and plant team.
Quality Support:
•Be familiar with the test(s) required to ensure customer specifications are met and the equipment used to conduct those tests.
•Identify test equipment needed based on customer specifications.
•Provide technical insight when needed for disposition of non-conforming rolls. Coordinate required testing when needed.
•Collaborate with quality reps on root cause analysis related to product performance.
•Be part of the SQF committee.
Formulations:
•Establish formulations that meet customer specification for film performance.
•Approve BOM for FG, FGS and FGD on Microsoft AX
•Optimize formulation for plant purpose in achieving/exceeding gross margin expectations with no compromise to customer specifications.
•Monitor resin inventories for possible shortages and communicate strategy to still meet customer order and gross margin expectations.
•Ensure Microsoft AX reflects formulations on a real time basis.
•Initiate approval of new chemicals (resins) prior to bringing in the plant in support of SQF requirements.
•Utilize company resources (i.e. P.A.C.T.) in the development of new products.

Education & Experience:
•BS in plastics engineering, materials engineering.

•Minimum 10 years of manufacturing experience in a Blown Film coextrusion production facility of HDS, stretch hood, Sealant, Barriers, Shrink and PE films.
