Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our growing construction company. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company’s growth. This role will play a crucial part in managing the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management. Ensure accurate and timely financial information is available to support decision-making.

Accounting Operations:

Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant construction industry regulations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Develop annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads, monitoring performance against the budget and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Financial Reporting:

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.

Cost Control:

Implement and monitor cost control measures to maximize profitability on projects. Analyze project financials and provide insights to project managers regarding performance against budgets.

Internal Controls:

Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting. Conduct regular audits and compliance reviews.

Team Leadership:

Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Oversee training and development initiatives for staff.

Tax Compliance:

Manage tax planning and compliance, ensuring all federal, state, and local tax obligations are met timely and accurately. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors as necessary.

Strategic Support:

Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term financial strategies and support business development initiatives. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a management role, preferably within the construction industry.

Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job costing and contract management.

Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members, management, and external stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
