Penn State's OriginLabs, within the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization , seeks a passionate individual to join their team as a

Student Engagement and Outreach Coordinator . In this position, you'll play a vital role in fostering a vibrant makerspace community at

OriginLabs , a state-of-the-art prototyping and product development facility, located in the Eric J Baron Innovation Hub.

OriginLabs offers students access to equipment and space for woodworking, metalworking, welding, painting, 3D printing, electronics, design, and digital fabrication.

You will report to the Shop Manager at OriginLabs and be responsible for the design, planning, and execution of student-centric programming, utilizing the full array of OriginLabs facilities and equipment. This position includes some evening and weekend hours, limited travel, and supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop a variety of fun and interactive workshops and events focused on design/build projects, skill development, and other "making" activities tailored to the interests of University Park students. The programs will factor in flexible formats and durations to cater to diverse preferences.Serve as the primary point of contact for students using the Makerspace. This involves providing support, guidance, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.Network and build relationships with student groups, clubs, and other campus partners to expand OriginLabs' reach and engagement within the university community.Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop and lab environment.Determine appropriate staffing levels Iin coordination with the Shop Manager and Director, determine appropriate staffing levels, train, provide day-to-day operational insight and act as direct supervisor for hourly employees.Collaborate with the Shop Manager and Director to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend adjustments to content, policies, and procedures to enhance the student experience.Effectively manage the budget allocated for hourly employees, equipment, operations, supplies, and other resources to ensure efficient utilization.Education and Experience : The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition, the successful candidate would also have the following:

Strong interpersonal communication skills.Strong leadership skills.Some knowledge of materials and fabrication processes.Attention to craft and detail, and ability to execute on a timeline.Supervisory experience is a plus.The following are strongly preferred:

Experience supporting a makerspace, fabrication lab, service bureau or similar operations.Experience in educational workshop planning and instruction.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
