Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:Respiratory CareSchedule:Full timeHours:36Job Details:The Respiratory Care Supervisor is the patient care administrative representative of the respiratory care department 24 hours per day. He/she assigns all scheduled respiratory care procedures to staff and manages all unpredictable activity of the Respiratory Department throughout the shift, including medical emergencies, traumas, transports, sedations, imaging procedures, PRTs, Code Blues, and internal/external disasters. The supervisor continuously adjusts staffing to meet priorities while assuring continuous unit-based coverage (PICU, NICU and ED). On-Call staff are utilized by the supervisor as necessary. The RC supervisor manages the shift’s staffing, building the 6 week staff schedules accommodating staff requests, covering sick calls, right sizing staff for the current and future shift workloads. The RC supervisor manages staff behavior in real time, providing counseling, encouragement and support to staff as needed during their shift. He/she oversees the orientation of new staff, assigning preceptors, adjusting staffing to allow for unit or transport orientation and providing bedside mentoring of procedures in all units. The RC supervisor is instrumental in completing annual competencies for their shift’s staff. He/she assigns mentors for students and visiting therapists for their pediatric clinical rotations, adjusting assignments to meet learning objectives. The RC supervisor acts as a consultant on respiratory care for the medical residents and attending physicians. He/she is the front line patient experience person responding to patient/parent complaints involving respiratory care as needed. The RC supervisor must maintain the highest level of respiratory clinical and technical skills, including endotracheal intubation, critical care transport, needle thoracentesis, mechanical ventilation, specialty gas administration, blood gas sampling and analysis, and more.

Department Specific Job Details:

The pediatric respiratory care team at Dayton Children’s is comprised of licensed respiratory care professionals who work closely with physicians, nurses and other specialists to provide a high level of care. The pediatric respiratory therapists provide care for children of all ages helping to treat respiratory diseases and illnesses including asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital diseases, and others. The department also offers asthma education and smoking cessation counseling.

Critical Care Experience

3+ years of experience as respiratory therapist

Preferred:

Supervisory Experience

Education Requirements:

Associates: Respiratory Therapy (Required), Bachelors
