Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Director supervises the pharmacy department including personnel and services provided by the department. The Director works with other hospital departments and the medical staff. The Director will have a working relationship with pharmaceutical vendors and the general public when called upon.

The Pharmacy Director will act as a Pharmacist as needed to ensure proper coverage for the department and participates in other hospital committees and teams as appropriate.

What You Will Do:

Leadership

Develops and mentors staff: Encourages staff to develop professionally through ongoing education, certification, and job advancement; provides these opportunities in a fiscally responsible manner; actively participates in the Pharmacy orientation process for all new hires; participates actively when patient care decisions are made; keeps individual skills and knowledge base current; identifies opportunities for improvement and uses them as learning situations for coordinators/staff; assures staff remains competent. Is able to discipline constructively without punishment; maintains open communication and a climate of mutual respect when dealing with staff.Assists with Pharmacist coverage as needed to ensure continuity of operations for Pharmacy services.Maintains a working knowledge of BRH's 340B drug pricing program and receives relevant 340B training from the Compliance Officer, at least annually.Communicates the Mission, Vision, C.A.R.E. values, Code of Conduct and goals of the facility.Financial Management

Budget: Prepares and manages Pharmacy budget; questions processes regarding budget; develops and uses staffing grids; supply utilization is within budgetary parameters.Uses creative ideas & evaluates changing health care environment to identify market gaps that could offer new possibilities for revenue expansion. Develops solutions for generating revenue/cost containment. Develops business plans for new ventures and implements the programs according to the plan in fiscally responsible manner; maintains accountability to Senior Leaders for programs.Quality Management

Performance Improvement: Articulates expectations for staff; holds huddles with staff to communicate changes and clarify issues; negotiates department needs with other departments; identifies and responds to PI opportunities; participates on PI teams; uses data to make appropriate decisions and to guide others in their own PI projectsHuman Resource Management

Hiring: Hires the "right people"; turnover rates appropriate as per benchmarks; terminates according to expected protocol.Scheduling/Payroll: Performs or oversees staff scheduling functions and adjusts unit schedules as appropriate; performs or oversees payroll review and approval processes; assumes "on-call" status as needed.Reward, Recognition: Affirms and creatively recognizes positive behaviors and performance.Other related duties as assigned:

Member of the Clinical Leadership and Management Teams; participates in regular meetings; active in formulating leadership goals.Serves as staff support person for assigned Pharmacy Committees.Participates on hospital/department ad hoc committees/teams and projects.Participates in professional and/or community organizations.Performs other related duties, as assigned.Minimum Qualifications for the Job:

Education:

Graduation of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education.Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of current Pharmacist experience. Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience, is preferred.License(s):

Current State of Alaska Pharmacist License.Certification(s):

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS.Internal Hires:

Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
