GENERAL SUMMARY:

This individual reports to the Vice President – Pharmacy Services HFHS and has overall responsibility for assuring pharmacy services within the hospital meet organizational objectives and patient care needs. The director provides guidance and direction in planning, organizing and supervising activities of the members of his/her management team and, through them, all members of the hospital’s pharmacy staff. At the Health System level, this individual assists in conceptualizing, implementing and evaluating models of practice that improve the quality and economy of pharmacy services and in developing and implementing pharmacy policies, procedures and processes that assure patients receive drug therapy that is safe, effective and as economic as possible.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director-Pharmacy Operations, Centralized Pharmacy Services, is a member of the Pharmacy Enterprise leadership team, and reports to the Vice-President, Pharmacy Shared Services.

The Director will provide leadership and oversight for operations within the Centralized Pharmacy Services Center [CPSC], such as warehouse operations and upcoming phases centralizing outpatient pharmacy and sterile compounding.

CPSC notable activities requiring dedicated leadership include, but are not limited to, complex pharmacy operations, distribution, and logistics.

Provide guidance and coordination for system pharmacy operations to ensure strategic alignment with the HFH Pharmacy Enterprise and portfolio of CPSC pharmacy services.

Provide operational, clinical, and safety recommendations related to optimal performance of pharmacy operations.

Ensure pharmacy operations support pharmacy practice professional requirements, established clinical standards of care, meet or exceed patient care quality standards, are in compliance with various regulatory agencies, and are aligned across the pharmacy enterprise, as appropriate.

Direct operations to consistently meet or exceed customer's needs, through effective continuous quality improvement practices. Monitors, measures, and evaluates respective systems’ effectiveness while assisting in optimizing pharmacy services and outcomes.

Collaborate with the respective pharmacy & health system teams and serve as liaison representing HFH Pharmacy in these areas.

Maintains knowledge of leading-edge developments, best practices, and evolving pharmacy services by participation in ongoing independent study, education- related professional activities, precepting pharmacy students or residents, and affiliations with colleges of pharmacy and respective professional societies.

Provide mentorship and professional development to pharmacy managers and team members.

Enable and foster collaborative and transparent healthcare industry relationships to advance HFH Pharmacy Enterprise forward in pursuit of high reliability and safety.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must have obtained an advanced degree (post BS Pharm.D., MS, MBA or equivalent), completed a residency program approved by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a fellowship in pharmacy, or have demonstrated a similar level of achievement in the practice of hospital pharmacy.

Prior experience as a hospital or health system director of pharmacy

Must have demonstrated leadership ability in working with and coordinating the activities of others in developing improved patient care services.

Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. He/she should likewise demonstrate a desire to contribute to the pharmaceutical literature.

Must have a strong background in all areas of progressive hospital pharmacy practice.

Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability and progressively increasing levels of organizational responsibility.

Must be able to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels.

Should have completed research which demonstrates originality and investigative ability in an area of pharmacy practice. The work should be suitable for publication in the pharmaceutical or medical literature.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan.
