Interventional Radiologist Physician

Place of Work: Atlanta VA Medical Center, Clairmont Road Decatur, GA 30033

Period of Performance: 1 year

Direct Patient Care: estimated 90 - 95% of the time involved in direct patient care. The contractor shall be responsible for providing Interventional Radiology procedures, including, but not limited:

Angiography

Cryoblation

Balloon angioplasty/stent placement

Line insertion

Chemoembolization

IVC filters

Cholecystostomy

Vertebroplasty / Kyphoplasty

Drain insertions

Nephrostomy placement

Embolization

Radiologically inserted gastrostomy

Thrombolysis

Dialysis access & related interventions

Biopsy

TIPS placement

Radiofrequency ablation

Biliary intervention

Endovenous laser ablation of varicose veins

Physician(s) shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time.

Patients must be seen by physician(s) on-site at the facility in a timely manner in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult/order completion. Contractor shall notify the COR at least monthly about any obstacles to meeting this performance measure

Physician(s) shall provide consultation with and instruction to referring physicians regarding appropriate indications for interventional radiologic procedures so that the most expeditious and clinically appropriate work-up can be done. Contractor physician(s) shall determine the appropriate course of treatment and communicate in person or by phone with the referring clinicians.

Physician(s) shall provide review of consults and next- day patient cases for minimum of two hours daily.

Physician(s) shall provide post-procedure evaluation and follow-up and clinical consultation regarding complications of interventional radiologic procedures.

Physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.

Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.

Physician(s) shall participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required.

Physician(s) shall perform on-going peer reviews for approximately four hours per month.

Physician(s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care

Physician(s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care.

Technical Proficiency: Physician(s) shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Physician shall provide documents upon request to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and/or services performed. Physician shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history for all contractor's physician(s) and contractor's physician(s) shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations (referenced herein) that govern medical staff behavior.

License: The physician(s) assigned to perform the services covered by this contract shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property. All licenses held by the key personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contractor's physician(s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.

Board Certification: All contractor's physician(s) shall be Board Certified per the American Board of Radiology (http://www.theabr.org/). All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times. Documentation verifying current certification shall be provided by the Contractor on an annual basis for each year of contract performance

HOURS OF OPERATION/SCHEDULING: Clinic hours are 7:30am – 4:30pm EST. Monday – Friday, day tour, as needed. After hours on-call, weekends and government holidays. Weekday on call is from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 and 24 hours -weekends Saturday and Sunday

Off-hours Coverage: Interventional Radiologist physician (s) must be available on-call during all hours as indicated; Monday through Friday 5:00pm – 8:00 am when the clinic is closed, including but not limited to full coverage on weekends 24 hours per day and holidays 24 hours per day. Annual leave coverage will be during daily operation business hours of the Radiology department. There will be a 10- day notification when annual leave coverage is needed.

On Call Coverage: On-call contractor's physician(s) must be available at all times for phone consultations with VA residents and physicians. On-call providers must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site within 60 minutes.
