To identify students who are eligible for speech and language services under IDEA and provide each student under their case management responsibilities with a program that will enable the student to reach his or her fullest potential in the areas of speech and language.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide screenings to identify speech and language handicapped children.Assist teachers in observing speech and language skills, implementing strategies, and referring students suspected of having speech and language disorders.Participate in special education screening meetings to determine if evaluations are warranted.Provide a thorough assessment of articulation, voice, fluency, and language skills either as a single discipline evaluation or as part of the special education team.Interpret speech and language evaluation results to special education team members and parents and subsequently determine the diagnosis and eligibility for speech and language services by applying the state eligibility criteria.Write individualized educational plans (IEP) for speech and language disordered students with parental input at the IEP meeting.Provide appropriate individualized therapy to meet needs of speech and language disordered students.Prepare home programs for parent participation in the remediation process.Fulfill state mandated case manager responsibilities for single discipline speech and language cases. Responsibilities include: contacting parents, scheduling and conducting all IEP and parent meetings, informing parents of their procedural safeguards and completing state required procedures and paperwork for initial or transfer placements, three-year evaluations, and dismissals.Maintain therapy records documenting student progress.Compile and report caseload data to the Director of Special Education for district and state reports.Send quarterly reports to parents regarding speech and language progress.Collaborate with and serve as a resource to school staff members in the area of speech and language development, classroom strategies, and services available.Requisition and maintain needed therapy equipment, supplies, and materials.Administer hearing screenings at the district annual developmental readiness screening program.Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

7 hours/day; 188 days/school year
