Emergency Management Specialist
Job Description:
This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of trainings and exercises requiring involvement from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Division of Emergency Preparedness (DEP). This position coordinates with requesting entities to obtain specific public health and healthcare emergency preparedness and response trainings. This position supports the design, development, evaluation of state, regional, and local emergency preparedness exercises. This individual will focus on assisting the Training and Exercise Coordinator in the operations of the training and exercise program. Duties: • Coordinate with division and agency staff, and external partners to assure staff are trained to Incident Command Structure (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) standards and agency preparedness and response plans. • Assist in agency development of specific training and educational modules relative to agency plans. • Assist in the development of Integrated Preparedness Plan (IPP)/Workshop (IPPW) annually with the IDOH designated partners. • Assist partners in use of development of trainings using different adult education methods. • Coordinate with federal stakeholders and training consortiums to bring training opportunities to Indiana. • Update and maintain training course offerings utilizing Indiana's training learning management system (LMS). • Assist in communicating local, state, and federal training course offerings by developing communications, website updates, and calendar communications. • Help to ensure division exercises follow an all-hazards approach consistent with FEMA Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) guidelines. • Assist in ensuring that lessons learned and improvement plans resulting from exercises are communicated to appropriate staff so that they may be incorporated during updates to plans and procedures. Tasks include developing After Action Reports (AARs) and Improvement Plans (IPs). • Assist in coordinating with DEP staff to ensure division plans are exercised and staff competencies are evaluated to assure optimal functionality. • Liaison with other IDOH divisions and programs regarding training and the development of exercises. • Assist in providing technical assistance to agency stakeholders and partners, including state agencies, local health departments, healthcare coalitions, hospitals, and other healthcare entities. • Liaison with Health Care Coalition (HCC) and local health departments (LHDs) in order foster a streamlined approach to scheduling training courses. • Support tracking and completion of federal grant requirements outlined within CDC's Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program (PHEP) and ASPR Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP).
