Pediatric Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory and pulmonary therapy, management, and rehabilitation under the direction of a doctor. The Respiratory Therapist treats conditions that affect the pulmonary system and help patients who are having trouble breathing from infants to the elderly in a variety of health care settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Adheres to established policies and procedures of the facilityPerforms focused interviews to identify specific patient needsAssess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's conditionPlans for outcomes of care for those patients assignedAssists with diagnosing lung or breathing disordersEvaluates patients and performs tests and studies when indicatedDetermines appropriate therapy and treatment options in collaboration with physiciansAnalyzes blood and sputum in the lab when applicableManages respiratory/pulmonary equipment and devicesEducates patients and families about lung diseases and breathing disordersPerforms interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard.Adheres to emergency, safety and infection control procedures of the facilityPromotes and participates in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communicationsReports changes in the patient's respiratory status to the Director/Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, the nurse primarily responsible for the patient, and the physician, as needed, and prior to leaving the facilityOther duties as assignedMinimum Requirements:

Current Respiratory Therapist Certification or Registration for the state in which he/she practicesTwo (2) years' experience as a licensed respiratory therapist.Minimum of one (1) year pediatric critical care experience.Level III or IV NICU experience strongly preferred.Complies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age Compliance & Ethics ExpectationsCertification/License/Registry Requirements:

Current, Active, Permanent State of Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license.Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC.Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association.American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership preferred.NRP preferred.Benefits
