JOB TITLE:

Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program; valid state licensure and certification as an SLP (ESA); Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred; experience working in a school setting preferred; strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Bi-lingual preferred. Successfully pass a criminal history check.

REPORTS TO:

The Director of Special Education.

JOB GOAL:

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other school staff to ensure students receive the necessary support to improve their communication skills and academic performance.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assesses students' communication skills (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations. Develops treatment plans, interventions, and/or educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements. Collaborates with various groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals, etc.) to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines. Provides individual and group therapy sessions to students with identified speech and language needs. Implements evidence-based practices and interventions tailored to each student's specific needs. Monitors and documents student progress and adjusts interventions as necessary. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education and related services. Instructs assigned support staff to provide information on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices and feeding techniques, and/or implementing prescribed treatment plans. Performs site visits at multiple work sites including home visits to provide therapy and assistance as required. Maintain all necessary paperwork including: Assessment reports for all tests administered MDT summary analysis reports, as appropriate, for all CD-only student IEP's Therapy tracking (SOAP notes, progress reports, etc.) as related to treatment goals and objectives. Provide direct therapy and provide supervision of therapy in the classroom and/or by SLP Assistant. Supports the district's initiatives (e.g., ML support, PBIS, and PLCs) within the context of speech/language therapy. Attend MDT meetings and/or other staffing meetings as necessary. Interprets the speech and language pathologist services to teachers and parents. Stays current with research and best practices in the field of speech and language pathology. Attends workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities. Assists with in-service training of personnel. Maintains licensure and certification requirements as mandated by state and professional organizations. Performs other related duties as assigned for the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Actively participates in vertical and horizontal collaboration teams (school committees, grade level teams, PLCs, PBIS teams, etc.) Advocates for students with speech and language needs, ensuring they have access to appropriate services and accommodations. Provides support and resources to families to help them understand and navigate the special education process.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Contractual agreement in accordance with WAC parameters of state laws and the negotiated agreement, the individual contract, district rules and regulations, and administrative directives.

180-day work year

SCHEDULE:

7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

As determined by the Board of Directors, state law, local board policy, and GEA bargaining agreement.

EVALUATION:

At least annually on/before May 1st by the Director of Special Education and/or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law, WAC's, GEA contracts, and district policy.
