POSITION TITLE:
SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
REPORTS TO : Supervisor of Speech, Hearing, and Vision Services and Building Administrator
OVERTIME STATUS : EXEMPT
PAY GRADE:
700
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs difficult professional work delivering educational relevant instructional services to students
identified with speech and/or language impairments. Candidate also completes related work as
required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Speech, Hearing,
and Vision services and School Principal. Limited supervision is exercised over paraprofessionals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Employ comprehensive assessment and evidenced based intervention strategies associated
with speech and language impairment
Completes diagnostic batteries to determine articulation, fluency, language, pragmatic, and voice disorders;
Prepares reports with testing results, recommendation for remediation and therapy plans appropriate to individual needs;
Develops learning goals and objectives while guiding the instructional process toward achievement of these goals;
Consults and collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis regarding student needs and progress;
Conducts and participates in Child Find, Screening, RTI, Review of Existing Data, Eligibility, IEP development and implementation procedures to address identified student deficits
related to speech and/or language skills
Attends related departmental meetings/trainings and conferences necessary to comply with local, federal and state laws, rules and regulations to ensure a free appropriate education
and to protect the rights of students;
Prepares and maintains related records and files (including Medicaid billing); Performs related tasks as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Thorough knowledge of special education principals, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge
of the evidenced based methodologies to address speech and language disorders; thorough
knowledge of school division policies, regulations, and procedures; ability to obtain and analyze
components of comprehensive assessment practices to effectively identify and develop treatment
plans for speech and language disorders; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally
and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students,
parents, staff and administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a valid speech-language pathology license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and
Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP).
