Minimum Qualifications:
High school or equivalent and five years related experience. ASCP Certified.
Job Description:
To provide supervision of histology technicians and instruction of students in the science of histologic technique including tissue structure.
Department Marketing Statement:
Seeking histology support in BSL-1 and BSL -2 for high containment research projects and to actively pursue training for tissue sample collection in the BSL-3 and BSK-4.
Job Duties:
Perform and/or develop basic histology techniques including processing, paraffin embedding, and paraffin sections.
Perform and/or develop basic and advanced histological staining techniques, including hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and manual in situ hybridization (ISH).
Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
Directs repair and maintenance of equipment.
Under the guidance of a pathologist develop skills in sample preparation.
Actively persue and successfully pass required training for high containment access.
Observe and assist with sample collection at necropsy under the guidance of a pathologist within high containment (BSL-3 and BSL-4).
Develop skills to independently collect tissue samples at necropsy in high containment (BSL-3 and BSL-4).
Adheres to internal controls established for department.
Marginal or Periodic Functions:Performs related duties as required.
Salary Range:Commensurate with experience.
