JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Prepares histology material for pathologist review.- Prepares histology material using established departmental procedures and demonstrating high quality technical skills.- Produces histology materials at or above productivity standards.- Assists in training new laboratory personnel

S

pecimen preparation/Laboratory informatics/Safety - Assists with all aspects of specimen processing including identifying, sorting, and labeling of blocks and slides.- Uses laboratory informatics system to document workflow, track and identify specimens.- Performs all laboratory duties following established safety guidelines.

Quality Control, New Equipment/Solution Preparation - Review patient material as part of section quality assurance and participates in laboratory quality control processes.- Evaluates new equipment; procedures and techniques and participates in implementation.- Prepares reagents and solutions. Maintains and cleans laboratory and equipment. Other duties as required.

Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent. With required education, three years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, one year experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, no experience is required.
