Manages the planning and implementation of the immunization program for all District 4 Clinics based on recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). Travel required to all 12 counties.

All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Job Responsibilities

1. Manages the planning and implementation of the immunization program.

a. Develops strategies to advance the immunization program based on data collection and programmatic assessments.

i. Completes a population-based study annually to assess the percentage of children that are up to date on immunizations by age two.

ii. Compiles district wide data for annual immunization assessment to evaluate children 19-35 months of age.

iii. Submits a monthly programmatic report that details progress made towards meeting targeted program measurements, requirements and deliverables including: summaries that reference accomplishment and/or areas of concern; promotional activities conducted for nationally recognized immunization campaign weeks/months (categorized by county); related trainings/educational activities and perinatal Hepatitis B case management data.

b. Ensures all providers administer vaccines based on ACIP Recommendations by completing at least an annual Quality Assurance Visit at all District 4 Clinics as part of the District 4 Quality Assurance/Improvement Team.

c. Ensures county health departments meet Vaccines for Children (VFC) programmatic requirements through audit activities and by regularly monitoring clinics for compliance to policies.

d. Works with the infectious disease program to follow up on all infants born to mothers with hepatitis B infection and coordinate vaccination and testing of these infants as needed.

e. Ensures that immunization services are integrated into all other service visits.

2. Acts as the subject matter expert for the District providing technical assistance and training for public health nursing staff and other stakeholders.

a. Ensures that county staff have proper training and knowledge to perform immunization assessments at all childcare, kindergarten, and seventh grade programs (public and private) and that all data collected is entered into SENDSS.

b. Collaborates with the District Immunization Program Consultant to develop an annual educational plan to include the education of all District 4 Clinic staff, private providers, schools, daycare centers, and the public.

c. Completes the Train the Trainer Training annually. Ensures that all immunization clinical personnel receive initial and annual training as needed and that VFC training requirements are met.

d. Ensures programmatic changes and current vaccine information is disseminated to the county managers and nurses.

3. Evaluates the vaccination status of disease contacts and public health employees to prevent the spread of vaccine preventable diseases.

a. Collaborates with the District Epidemiologist and infection disease unit to assess immunization status of patients involved in a vaccine-preventable disease outbreak/investigation and to coordinate administration of post-exposure vaccination of exposed persons.

b. Evaluates the vaccination status of District employees, provides education related to District policy.

4. Provides educational presentations and tools and oversees community marketing efforts.

a. Promotes all CDC immunization campaigns through educational outreach and marketing.

5. Assist the District Nursing Director with managing the budget allocation for the program.

6. Works with county health department staff to engage community partners including school districts to advance the immunization program.

a. Disseminates pertinent School based flu Project information and work with the county health departments as needed to coordinate School based flu efforts.

b. Attends Flu Stakeholders' Meetings via phone conference.

c. Ensures county clinics submit accountability forms to the state after a SBF event.

d. Ensures county clinics submit all billing information to the state office for reimbursement after all SBF clinics are completed.

7. Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a high level of computer skills, including spreadsheets.

8. Under general supervision, provides technical assistance and training within a health care specialty. Plans, directs, and implements a specialty program. Evaluates programs for compliance with state and/or federal guidelines.

9. Acts as the liaison to the State Immunization Office.

a. Ensures that information and communications from the State Immunization Office is disseminated

b. Attends all quarterly Immunization Coordinator's meetings.

c. Files all reports in a timely manner.

d. Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and update knowledge about all ACIP recommendations, VFC program requirements, and state immunization requirements in order to provide guidance to county staff.

Minimum Qualifications

PH Licensed Practical Nurse 3Vocational/Technical degree in licensed practical nursing from an accredited college

AND

Four years of LPN public health experience

AND

current Georgia license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse

AND

CPR certification.
