Director of Accounting
FUNCTION:
To manage and oversee all aspects of the Accounting Department and provide qualitative and quantitative financial data to internal and external users.
Oversee the monthly and quarterly close, annual reports, and financial presentations.
Responsible for GAAP research and documentation including implementation of new accounting policies.
INTERACTION:
The Director of Accounting interacts with the Accountants/Analysts, Finance Management, CFO, various other Finance personnel, other key stakeholders in the business (Executives & Management), and external auditors.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the timely and accurate month-end closes and written analysis, monthly account reconciliations, and resulting variance resolutions.
Responsible for the Quarterly and Annual Consolidated and Subsidiary financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Perform comprehensive research on new GAAP pronouncements and prepare policies and procedures to be reviewed and approved by external auditors before adoption if applicable.
Assist with financial reports and presentations for board meetings and other executive presentations.
Oversee the coordination, preparation, and review of required audit schedules and assist auditors with the timely completion of quarterly and annual audits.
Assist in identifying process improvements and internal controls and updating policies and procedures and work instructions.
Provide direction on system changes needed for reorganizations and/or restatements of financial data.
Work closely and cross-train with the Inventory Control department.
Perform other duties as assigned
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage staff of Accountants.
Provide developmental and cross-training opportunities
Assist with the training and development of training material.
Demonstrate the following culture within the Accounting Department:
customer service,
continuing process improvement,
building effective working relationships with people outside the department, and
personal responsibility for the integrity of all work
QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. MBA, or MBA candidate a plus. 8 years of prior accounting and public accounting experience and 3-5 years of management experience required
Experience with implementing new accounting pronouncements required
Experience with GAAP research is required
Knowledge of finance, accounting, and financial reporting
Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, general ledger structures, and internal controls
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel.
Oracle a plus.
Must also demonstrate strong analytical skills
Understanding of the big picture view and how to identify obstacles and opportunities that impact the business
Ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and manage several projects simultaneously, sometimes with only broad guidelines
Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Team player with a creative problem-solving approach and attention to detail
This position requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends based on business needs
