The Assistant Controller is responsible for the establishment and implementation of the organization's accounting policies and procedures. They have overall responsibility for accounting operations and systems, as well as associated analysis and report preparation. This role ensures the accounting department and organization are following General Accepted Accounting Principles in order to produce accurate and timely financial statements monthly and quarterly as well as annual reports. They lead and develop accounting team members.

What you will do here:

Transformational Leadership:

Hire, mentor, and train a team including goal setting, performance evaluation, and development.Monitor employee performance using management, coaching, and interpersonal skills to influence, motivate, and develop staff, including those who are not direct reports.

General Accounting and Ledger Management:

Provide oversight for accounting functions such as reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.Validate and monitor adherence to ensure control over transactional processing and posting to the credit union's general ledger accounts.

Financial reporting

Review and validate financial statements produced monthly and quarterly as well as annual reports.Provide quarterly oversight of the NCUA 5300 Call Report and Fannie Mae regulatory reports.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

Assist in maintaining and strengthening internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations.Support internal and external audits and reviews.

Provide input and assistance with annual operating budget.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.What you will need:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

required.8+ years accounting experience, with management experience and generally accepted accounting principles

required.4+ years of related experience in a financial institution

required.5+ years of progressive leadership experience

required.Demonstrated expertise in financial institution accounting concepts, practices, and financial reporting

required.Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing challenges and implementing effective solutions. Ability to make decisions under pressure and resolve conflicts as they arise

required.Strong collaborative skills to work with diverse groups of leaders, team members, departments and senior leaders to ensure shared success

required.Demonstrated strong leadership, people, and organizational skills to lead, build, and develop highly effective teams

required.Ability to leverage multiple financial, payroll, and accounting systems to gather, analyze, and report on data

required.Demonstrated competency using Microsoft Office Suite

required.CPA - Certified Public Accountant

preferred.
