Description

General Function:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and consistent with the Christian mission, the lifeguard is responsible for the safety of all members and participants in the pool area. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for member service while in the pool area. The lifeguard will be required to attend swim lesson instructor trainings and be prepared to teach swim lessons.

Principal Activities:Must be able to work two (2) days per week. Weekend work will be required as neededCheck safety equipment and have ready for useBe alert, courteous, professional, and tactful to all members, visitors and staffGuard with staff shirt, rescue tube, whistle, and CPR packMaintain observation of pool at all timesEnforce all rules as written and postedAvoid unnecessary talking or visiting with swimmers or visitorsTo correct a rule infraction use (Q 1 2) in a courteous but determined mannerClear swimmers from water during electrical storm. Wait 30 minutes after lightning and thunder before entering waterClear pool immediately if there is a power outageMake a survey of the bottom of the pool when coming on duty, during duty and when leavingWhen closing check all rooms, lock dressing room doors, fill-out attendance sheets/ duty list, take articles to pool lost and found, and hang key in the Aquatic Director's boxKnow proper emergency procedureGive deep-water test to those wanting to swim in deep waterNEVER leave the pool unguardedRecord attendance for adult, youth, family open swim, and other groups as neededTest pool chemistry and make adjustments as needed, record all results and actions in the pool log bookCommunicate to all members and visitors in an appropriate mannerAttend YMCA Orientation sessions, training, and staff meetings as scheduledAttend YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor training and be prepared to teach lessonsReview lifesaving skills, CPR, First Aid procedures and be knowledgeable of the Aquatics HandbookReport to work at least

minutes before scheduled timeClock In/Out as scheduled on the Aquatic work schedulePerform other assignments as given by the Aquatic's Director or a member of the YMCA management teamQualifications

Know-How:

Current YMCA or RED CROSS Lifeguard certificationCPR PR, AED & First Aid, PDT and Oxygen Administration CertificationsHear and see noise and distress signalsSit or stand for extended periods of time on a lifeguard standMove to various locations, including in and around an elevated chairCommunicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distancesThink in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and rememberNo experience necessaryPhysical Requirements :

Seventeen (17) years of ageSight, hearing, and speakingStanding, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, sittingLifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbsPulling a minimum of 100 lbsTolerance to moderate noise levelsDressed professional in appropriate attire for activity that promotes a high standard of morality as specified by the Aquatics Director.
