Bennett Thrasher ("BT") has an opening for a

State Income Tax Manager.

The SALT (State and Local Tax) team provides critical assistance in addressing clients' state and local tax issues. The team is looking to add a State Income Tax Manager to grow the state income tax practice at Bennett Thrasher.

Responsibilities :

Developing process in conjunction with BT tax preparation teams and development of workpapers for broadly experienced issuesStrategic review of returns (e.g., higher risk or opportunity returns)Answering questions from other teams across the firmFinding opportunities from integration with BT tax preparation teams and pursuing studiesAppointment studies: sourcing of services, special industry, and nonbusiness vs. business (e.g., gain on sale)Filing methodology studies: beneficial elections and requirementsPublic Law 86-272 studiesTax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) SALT consulting: 163(j), GILTI, etc.Resolving material prior period exposure for applicable clients: Modeling ImpactState modification review: Virginia pre-FTI modificationsResidency Issues for high-net worth individualsProvide proactive state income tax planningState income tax controversy workResponsible for state income tax trainings for firmMaintain open communication with management regarding projects' progress and deadlinesBuild and maintain positive relationships across the firmSupport interns and non-state tax staff in professional developmentQualifications :

Undergraduate degree required, CPA or JD preferredAdvanced knowledge of state income taxationExcellent writing and verbal communication skillsStrong commitment to professional and client service excellenceTime management, organizational and prioritization skillsAbility to effectively manage multiple engagements simultaneously
