Asset Management Asset Management is the primary investing area of Goldman Sachs. We provide investment and advisory services for some of the worlds leading pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, financial advisors and individuals. Working across asset classes in public and private markets, we oversee more than $2 trillion in assets under supervision globally. Structured Investing The Goldman Sachs Structured Investing Group is a multi-disciplinary structuring team within Asset Management, specializing in optimizing the firms investing and financing activities. The team focuses on originating, structuring and executing investments and other transactions that affect the firms global tax, regulatory and accounting positions. We work on transactions with deal teams across Asset Management and the rest of the firm, as well as originate and execute our own transactions. This is a creative, analytical and execution-focused team, comprised of people with diverse structuring backgrounds who thrive in fast-paced, changing environments. RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS: Job Description One of the teams main verticals is restructuring and originating investments where the firm acts as principal and the targets tax profile is a key consideration. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be responsible for all aspects of the transaction lifecycle, including: Originating new transaction opportunities by canvassing existing distressed positions within Asset Management and screening targets for new investments Designing bankruptcy/reorganization structures that achieve the firms objectives, negotiating them with external stakeholders, and directing their implementation Working with other Asset Management teams to underwrite new investments for the vertical Reviewing and negotiating transaction documents Modeling the impact of the transaction on the firms financial statements Managing the firms internal approval process for transactions Coordinating the firms resources for execution of transactions Monitoring and management of the book of investments (e.g. restructured positions, performing loans) Target Candidate A US tax professional at a leading bankruptcy/restructuring law firm or Big 4 accounting firm Current practice focused on bankruptcy and restructuring; preference for debtor representation Well-versed in non-tax aspects of bankruptcy/restructuring Will also consider bankruptcy lawyers with proficiency in tax aspects of bankruptcy/restructuring as well as former lawyers in distressed investing/restructuring roles at banks/funds 3rd-4th year law associate (or equivalent) Must be able to work independently with minimum direct supervision Strong modeling skills (Excel) are preferable Strong team player Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
