Job Summary:
The Production/R&D Chemist will be responsible for developing new formulas and improving existing formulas relating to body, skin, and hair care products for animals. Will collaborate with senior leadership, management and team leads to streamline and optimize new product development and the production process. Work on process improvements, optimization, scale up and validation activities. Perform lab testing on batches, finished goods and prototype formulas. Conduct research and field evaluations on new products and work in conjunction with sales and marketing to achieve sales goals. We are looking for someone who is a team-player with a positive attitude that thrives in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities and Duties:Manage a quality control program for all products that the company produces.Analyze processes and chemical composition of all products to develop a plan to simplify inventories of raw materials while maintaining or exceeding cost/margin goals.Develop new products and improve the functioning of existing products.Research product formulations and properties of raw materials.Develop Chemistry KPI'sAnalyze key competitor's products to ensure marketing and pricing objectives for the company are met.Maintain awareness of competitive products and market trends as they relate to pet care products.Practice and promote a safe working environment in the lab and adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety procedures.Ensure that products meet and/or exceed State and Federal guidelines.Research new chemicals and technology.Maintains accurate real time formulas entries into ERP and on Lab Notebooks ensuring accuracy and completeness.Oversees staff, monitors mixing batch personnel, and makes recommendations to improve process.Performs and monitors stability testing on R&D batches when needed.Request, test and release new raw material samples.Assists Management with company audits or in preparation of audits.Continually maintain plant and work environment for cleanliness and organization.Work alongside our purchasing team to resolve shortage of raw materials.Create and maintain SDS Specifications for all "House" and "Private" label products.Help assist in Improving mixing processes to streamline manufacturing.Obtain data and information required for regulatory submissions.Attend meetings and seminars with various sales representatives and vendors.Flexible and willing to perform other duties as assigned.Provide input and feedback in the safety committee meetings.Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry and/or Biochemistry is required. MS is preferred.Minimum 5+ years' R&D Chemistry Formulation experience in Consumer Products; preferably in cosmetics or an FDA regulated industry.Extensive Formulation experience in developing natural/clean Hair Care, Pet Coat Care, Personal Care, Fragrance, and Skin Care products.Experience in OTC product development is a plus.Experience working with ERP systems.Strong research skills, analytical and strong problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required.Benefits Include:
