An Overview

The Alexandria Police Department is looking for a few qualified individuals for a rewarding part time opportunity to connect with the community and provide safety to our smallest citizens. This is a great opportunity for individuals with flexible schedules including students, the stay-at-home parent and retirees. Each applicant should work well with children. To be a member of this dedicated team, one must be willing and able to work in all types of inclement weather conditions and have reliable transportation. The position requires some flexibility because periodically there may be a need to respond to emergency schedule changes. The crossing guard must be open and available to work any assigned school post.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate should have the willingness to work in adverse conditions, such as rain, heat and cold. A candidate should be able to understand and apply the rules of the road while crossing pedestrians through intersections and at crosswalks. This will also require the candidate to stand on his or her feet for approximately one-hour. The candidate should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and be courtesy with colleagues and the public.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience working with children; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Preferred Qualifications

Ability to follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff and the public. Must be able to be at school posts on time. Have the ability to exercise mature and alert judgment. Have the ability to be stern but tactful; Courteous and respectful with the public, particularly with school aged children.
