Detailed Position InformationThe Department of Journalism & Creative Media in the College of Communication & Information Sciences at the University of Alabama seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, renewable contract instructor position in creative media production to begin August 16, 2025. This teaching-focused position is based on a 3-year renewable contract cycle with opportunities for promotion. The teaching load is four courses per semester, with potential for additional summer course offerings in the form of our Journalism & Creative Media in Los Angeles program.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses focused on narrative and documentary production with traditional and emerging media. We are eager to work with candidates who will bring innovative instructional approaches to our department. Applicants should have expertise in at least two of the following areas of instruction:

-editing & post-production-sound for narrative & documentary cinema-cinematography-producing-emerging media

Applicants interested in and capable of leading our Journalism & Creative Media in Los Angeles program, as well as other immersion experiences at film festivals and industry hubs are particularly desirable. JCM in LA is a faculty-led summer internship experience. This immersive program brings students to live and intern in Los Angeles where they study the media and entertainment industries alongside faculty who are experienced in the industry.

Minimum QualificationsA master's degree in media production or a closely-related field is required for the instructor position. Commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues from different backgrounds and disciplines, engaging students with varied needs and interests, and preparing the next generation of media professionals to effectively serve all members of their communities is expected.

Preferred QualificationsPrior teaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.

About the Division/College/SchoolThe College of Communication & Information Sciences has four academic units, approximately 110 full-time faculty members, and serves approximately 3,500 students across bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, including approximately 95 students in the college-wide Ph.D. program. The college's Institute for Communication & Information Research (ICIR) is a premier research institute dedicated to addressing societal and cultural issues related to communication and information research. The ICIR collaborates with businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, foundations, and other entities to produce high-impact research that informs and improves our evolving communication and information landscape.
