position is responsible for designs & completes production of all types of cutting / folding dies and counter plates for production & off press make ready including lock up hardware to enable meeting necessary quality standards in finished product. Constructs stripping dies & cylinders and makes samples.Essential duties and responsibilities:
Duties performed by employees in this position will include, but not be limited to the following:
Set-up dies according to layout & other specificationsUses judgment in planning work for most accurate and efficient production of dies & counter platesDesigns & develops sample cartons of all types with assistanceDesigns dies according to layout & other specificationsPlan work for most accurate & efficient production of dies including repair workAssists with maintaining inventories of dies & die materialsAssists with make readyMay make suggestions to change layout for maximum efficiencyProvide innovative solutions for production problemsWorks without supervision and has no helpersAvoids waste by proper handling of die materials & diesConsistently operating common trade tools in a safe manner at or above standard levels of operation considering waste, efficiency, and utilizationAvoids damage to flatbed press, grinders, benders & common trade tools by proper operationAble to communicate effectively, get along with coworkers, management, and deal effectively and professionally under pressurePerform other duties as assignedRequirements:High School Diploma or General Education Degree or 2 years related experienceMust be able to read and interpret blueprints, micrometers, and calipersRequires working knowledge of all styles & types of folding cartons & box boardKnowledge of how to use hand toolsAbility to use hand tools to remove, install, and adjust partsDemonstrated problem solving skillsPreferred Skills:Previous experience working as a tool and die makerOperating knowledge of circular & jog saw; drill, drill press, grinder, rule benders & cutters, micrometer, dividers, & drafting tableTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorilyReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentialPhysical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions:Frequent walking & constant standingFrequent repetitive twisting or pressure of hands or wristsOccasional heavy lifting ranging from 10 - 50 lbs.Occasional lifting from ankle/bench heightOccasional pushing/pulling of 30 lbs.Occasional climbing of ladders, stooping, kneelingFrequent exposure to fumesMust be able to work around operational machineryOccasional exposure to dustThe noise level in the work environment is consistently above 85 decibelsAble to work with dust from paper converting processThe employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and lift trucksThe employee is occasionally exposed to products such as degreasers and silicone spraysRequired to wear steel-toed shoes, bump cap, hair net, ear plugs and safety glasses in manufacturing area and beard net requiredAmbient temp and humidity may be elevated during the summer months
