Overview:

.The Senior Accountant is an important member of the Accounting Department with responsibilities related to providing timely and accurate transaction processing and analyses for AHRC Nassau and its Affiliates, agencies primarily funded by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).The Senior Accountant operates under the guidance of the Director of Accounting and must be a team player with good communication, analytical, computer skills and current with FASB non-profit pronouncements. These skills are required to effectively perform analyses and accounting work to support the financial statement close process, the New York State Consolidated Fiscal Report (NYS CFR) contract filing analysis and meeting audit requirements.Responsibilities:Financial Close Support:

Timely and accurate processing in accord with the monthly financial close calendar including:Prepare and input of journal entries for approval specific to payroll and fringe benefits.Monthly account analysis for assigned income statement and balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to payroll and fringe expenses and related liability accounts and accruals.Prepare and review cost allocations necessary for timely recording of expenses across agencies and programs for proper reporting to Executives, Board of Directors and governmental funding agencies.Prepare supporting schedules for program budget to actual variances used in preparing monthly Program operations financial narratives, specific to overtime and FTE usage.Monitor of intercompany payroll expenses and related fringes benefits that will allow for proper billing for reimbursement of intercompany expenses.Timely completion of the supporting schedules used to prepare the NYS CFR, including but not limited to personnel services by program.Recording and reconciliation of all agencies medical, dental and other employee fringe expenses and related liabilities and accruals.Budgets:Assists in preparation of agency budget using financial statements, projected changes and staffing patterns.Audits:Support the annual audit process by timely satisfying auditors sample request and other provide by client (PBC) item assigned by the Director of Accounting.Asist in the preparation of annual IRS Form 990 and its related salary schedules.Support any contract or other regulatory audits.Other responsibilities:

Serve as back-up for other accountants positions as needed and determined by the Director of Accounting.

N/AQualifications:Education and/ or experience required:

Bachelors Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance

ANDFour (4) years relevant experience preferably with a NYS OPWDD funded agency

ORSix (6) years relevant experience with a Government funded agency requiring cost reportingConsidered a Plus:Experience with proper recording of self-funded Medical, Dental and HRA employee benefits planExperience with preparing NYS CFR schedulesProficiency in use of Sage Intacct, BlackBaud Financial Edge, UKG-Ultipro/ Kronos payroll systemSkills, Licenses and/ or competencies required:Good command of accounting pronouncements.Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word required.Good interpersonal skills exhibited by the ability to communicate with staff, management, and other departments in a professional mannerGood skills in paying attention to detail, analyses, developing and recommending solutions and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks on a timely basis with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environmentWork requires a strong work ethic and exhibiting a sense of urgency in completion of tasks, willingness to work a flexible schedule and a commitment to the mission of the agency.There are no physical demands for this position
