Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00*

JOB SUMMARY:The

Senior Staff Accountant

supports the day-to-day accounting functions of the firm while playing a key role in the maintenance and integrity of the general ledger. The Senior Staff Accountant works independently and has excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Senior Staff Accountant combines analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial transactions and reports. The Senior Staff Accountant collaborates with a team of accounting professionals, internal customers and firm management regularly to meet organizational goals and to support accurate financial reporting.

JOB FUNCTIONS•Supports the maintenance and integrity of the firm's financial activities and reporting through reconciliations and review of the general ledger. Identifies errors and processes timely corrective adjustments monthly.•Performs general ledger accounting functions including daily and monthly bank reconciliations; reconciles balance sheet accounts; prepares and records journal entries and maintains fixed asset schedules.•Assists with routine banking functions, including positive pay and daily cash reporting.•Reviews GL coding accuracy for vendor invoicing via Chrome River.•Assists in the preparation of the monthly financial statement package.•Prepares and maintains financial schedules to support firm's budgeting and reporting requirements.•Creates various ad hoc accounting reports, as needed, including expenditure analysis and G/L account analysis.•Supports month-end and year-end close processes.•Assists in preparation of tax filings, including business personal property, state/local business taxes and annual firm tax returns.•Works with internal clients to support the integration, adoption and continuous improvement of standardized processes, application tools, and work flow processes.•Performs other duties as required, including providing support to the Accounts Payable team.•Bookkeeping and financial statement preparation for the MTO Foundation.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting role, ideally in a law firm or other professional services organization.2. Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; HS diploma with relevant job experience also considered3. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.4. Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy while paying close attention to detail.5. Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.6. Expert knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting and advanced ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.7. Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload with effective independent follow-up.8. Expert knowledge of and ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.9. Maintain confidentiality around sensitive information.10. Experience using financial and accounting applications.11. Ability to identify problems and propose solutions.12. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and internal customers.13. Ability to effectively handle multiple projects in a collaborative and fast-paced environment that is deadline-driven.14. Familiarity with IRS and other jurisdictional reporting requirements.15. Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles [GAAP] and the ability to apply them appropriately within the organization.16. Knowledge of and ability to create, implement, evaluate and enhance processes in internal controls.
