Overview:

AmTrust Financial Services, Inc. (AFS) is currently recruiting a Staff Accountant I of Corporate Accounting in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Staff Accountant I will be responsible for the accounting of certain holding company activities, including but not limited to detailed maintenance of accounting records and related controls, accruals, debt transactions, expense allocations, account analysis and reconciliations, and ensuring that reported results comply with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America (GAAP).Responsibilities:Perform routine activities including the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations for payroll, debt, equity, intercompany activity and other month and quarter-end close related tasks.Assist in preparation of quarter-end reports for management, including debt and equity roll-forwards and interest expense analyticsAssist other accounting groups to resolve issues related to out of balances and intercompany breaksAssist with quarterly debt covenant compliance testingMaintain standard operating procedure documents and ensure adherence to those proceduresProvide support to other teams such as External Reporting, Treasury and TaxParticipate in ad hoc projects as necessaryQualifications:

Bachelors degree in accounting2+ years of experienceKnowledge and application of GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controlsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite applicationStrong working knowledge of ExcelProficient in Enterprise Resource Planning Software (Oracle) and Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS) a plusAbility to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlinesAbility to work independently, identify problems and propose viable solutionsMust be flexible and have demonstrated skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environmentStrong initiative, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, plus an orientation toward continuous improvement are requiredStrong communication, analytical, organizational and time management skillsThis job description is designed to provide a general overview of the requirements of the job and does not entail a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that will be required in this position.
