Function:

The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Finance Department with the task of managing assigned fiscal responsibilities to help Family Services preserve their fiscal integrity. Primary expectations are to maintain accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles with strict adherence to fiscal policy and procedures. Perform assigned duties independently and as part of the Finance team.

Job Requirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.5 to 8 years of related experience required.Not-for-profit experience preferred.Other Requirements:

Local travel to the bank, post office, or between offices, as needed.Benefits:

Job Responsibilities:

Accounting Records Management

General ledger (G/L) and spreadsheet analysis, journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounts receivable/payable monitoring and analysis.Prepare, analyze, and manage monthly reconciliation of receivables, payables, and critical balance sheet accounts.Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations for all agency accounts.Maintain records and track depreciation for fixed assets purchases.Research, organize, and catalog all required support documentation related to recording entries.Reporting and Fiscal Integrity

Design and manage systems for allocating expenses to appropriate funders in compliance with contract budgets and other restricted funding sources.Manage the month-end closing processes and related deliverables among the Finance Team, particularly AP/AR specialists and related staff.Generate and present financial and analytical reports as assigned by the supervisor and senior management.Prepare periodic financial reports for funding sources and regulatory government agencies.Communicate accurate financial information to allow for the proper business decisions and meaningful variance analysis for actual results versus forecast and budget.Assist in Shared Departmental Objectives

Inform preparation of annual program budgets and monthly projections.Identify and help develop streamlined accounting and financial processes.Assist the Team in preparation and successful completion of each annual audit.Facilitate communication between Finance, other departments, and program staff.Other Duties as assigned (which include but are not limited to):

Complete projects as assigned by the supervisory personnel.Supervisory duties to educate and guide direct reports.As the agency takes on additional programs, responsibilities may shift between staff.Competencies:

Concrete understanding and ability to apply math and accounting concepts required.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to work cooperatively and efficiently to meet deadlines.Concrete understanding of a computerized accounting system and electronic records management required.Proficiency in computer software, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel), Microsoft OS, Internet Browsing, and Accounting Software required.Ability to learn and work within agency procedures and guidelines.Exercise high ethical standards and professionalism.Be resourceful to track any missing information to complete assigned tasks in conjunction with input from other internal departments.Work Environment:
