Sr Cost Accountant

We have partnered with a public manufacturing company who has been a leader in the nutritional health space since 1980 in their search for a Senior Cost Accountant. This role is responsible for managing inventory valuation and cost of sales in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position works closely with Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to ensure accurate costing and efficient financial operations. Key responsibilities include overseeing product costing, manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation, as well as driving process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor key metrics like batch performance, labor hours, and scrap variances; collaborate with Operations to resolve issues.Analyze and report on variances such as purchase price and production efficiency, working with Logistics and Operations to identify causes and solutions.Provide tools and reports to minimize inventory write-offs, including shelf-life expiration forecasts.Manage and update item master data, including costs, routings, and labor rates.Support the global cost update process and conduct time studies for standard cost development.Help streamline cost data reporting and develop pricing models for new and existing products.Compare actual costs to pricing models and report on discrepancies.Lead efforts during annual physical inventory and recommend improvements for month-end close processes.Complete month-end close tasks, including journal entries and account reconciliations.Prepare audit schedules and support external auditors.Perform quarterly analyses to support inventory reserves.

Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting required.5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.Solid understanding of accounting principles and standards.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced Excel skills.Experience with ERP/MRP software, bills of material, and production control.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
