JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant leads our accounting operations, ensuring that the activities of the department follow established policy and provide timely and accurate financial information. The Senior Accountant reports to the Chief of Finance & Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Finance & Accounting

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of our monthly closing process and generate initial financial reports for review by the Chief of Finance and HR.Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger in collaboration with the Accounting and Grants Associate.Prepare accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standardsCoordinate and the annual audit preparation and provide supporting documentation, as requested to the external auditors and/or regulatory agenciesSupport the development of the annual budget process and monitor spending against budget through variance analysis.Maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with donor and grant requirementsMeet with members of the Senior Leadership Team to review financial information.Support the fundraising and development efforts of the organization, and prepare and submit financial reports and proposals to donors and grantorsAdministration

Ensure compliance with all DC regulatory officesSupport projects related to the Board of DirectorsOTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferredAt least 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organizationStrong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and tax and regulatory complianceExperience in preparing and financial statements and reports, and leading the annual audit processExperience in managing budgets and forecasts, and performing financial analysis and modelingExperience in maintaining internal controls, policies, and proceduresExperience in developing accounting staff, and working effectively with cross-functional teamsProficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software, such as QuickBooks or Sage as well as online accounting software solutions and payroll systemsExcellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate complex financial information to various audiencesHigh attention to detail, accuracy, and quality, and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasksStrong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and ability to think strategically and creativelyA passion for the mission and vision of the organization, and a commitment to its values and cultureWORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Own transportation is required for trips out of the officeMove, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistanceReach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.Climbing: Ascending or descending multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and armsStand, sit, or walk for an extended period

This is a full-time hybrid position, working in Calvary's offices a minimum of two days per week.

Salary Description

$70,000 - $90,000
