Description

Under general supervision, the Accounting Analyst performs a variety of advanced accounting duties to analyze, monitor, and report financial transactions for the County under general supervision. Key responsibilities include reconciling assigned general ledger accounts, conducting field audits, and monitoring Subscription-Based Information Technology Arrangements (SBITAS). This role also supports grant and donation management processes, ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations, and assists with internal audits and the annual audit process. The position requires maintaining effective relationships with elected officials, department directors, and their staff.Examples of Duties

Perform reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts, special assessment bonds, and revenues, expenditures and bank statements for agency funds (i.e., schools, courts, etc.).

Assist in identifying potential vendors and educating new vendors on ordinances and tax paying processes.

Conduct field audits to ensure compliance with local ordinances.

Support departments in managing grants and donated funds, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance; prepare and submit accurate financial reports related to grants and donations.

Perform internal auditing functions for departments with cash on hand, petty cash, or payment receipts; review internal controls, recommend improvements, and report findings to management. May also perform internal audits for areas such as use tax and procurement.

Support the annual audit process as assigned by the Accounting Manager, by compiling necessary schedules, reports, and information, and assisting with audit activities as directed.

Utilize standard office tools, general office supplies, and various computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and accounting/financial programs; operate equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, calculators, and telephones.

Manage and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, department directors, and their staff to support departmental finances.

Performs related duties as required to ensure smooth and efficient operations.Typical Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business management, public administration, or a related field, along with 3-5 years of governmental accounting experience. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and a high level of integrity and attention to detail are essential. Experience with grant and donation management is highly desirable.
