Veterinary Urgent Care Technician

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is seeking an experienced veterinary technician to join the Urgent Care team. Our established training program is in place to meet technicians where they are, meaning there is a place for everyone to start! With formal lectures, skills labs, and cage side training, we help all technicians expand their skills and knowledge in positions in the emergency service, intensive care unit, and specialty departments depending on their interests. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Be a crucial member of the healthcare team to ensure exceptional veterinary care for patients experiencing non-life- threatening medical emergenciesAssist doctors with urgent care appointmentsPerform initial triage for urgent care visits including obtaining vital signs, presenting complaint, and pertinent medical historyObtain samples for diagnostic testing (i.e. blood, urine, feces)Advocate for patients, and clients, answer client's questions and address their concerns; readily demonstrate empathy for clients in stressful and emotionally driven momentsAssist with urgent care procedures, including basic sedation and monitoringEnsure documentation is accurate and complete within the electronic medical recordWillingness to guide, mentor, and support fellow team membersThese positions require some weekend and holiday shiftsSkills and Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technician/assistantExcellent communication skills with clients and team membersProficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasksEnthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitudeMust have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm mannerMust be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicineMust be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the dayBenefits and Perks:

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 35,000-sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI. Located in Southern New England, OSVS sees and treats pets from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
