Job Purpose:
In this role, you will be part of a team of process experts that support Caterpillar’s Progress Rail Division continuous improvement processes – in particular, CPI. A successful candidate will continuously lead on average 6 CPI/CI projects through the CPI/CI DMAIC process and leverage problem solving (Six Sigma, Shainin, 8D, Lean, etc.) methodologies. In addition, candidate will help train and coach those executing and managing CPI activities throughout the enterprise on the CPI processes and tools. You will collect VOC information and help support the development of CPI tool enhancements – including testing, training material, and enterprise rollout. The successful candidate should be prepared to travel to various global facilities to facilitate/support problem solving projects, conduct training and provide mentoring. As member of the CPI core team, you serve the CPI community through communications, “help desk” support of processes and tool questions, and the collection & dissemination of best practices.

Key Job Elements:
• Lead cross-functional teams in the CPI Process as the CPI Project Leader;
• Effectively identify & execute the necessary data analytics required in either the “Find-It (problem identification)” or “Fix-It (root cause & corrective action)” phase of the CPI process;
• Support CPI with a customer focused mindset and a sense of urgency. Ensuring that projects are meeting major milestones as well as ensuring that improvements are effective in resolving the issue;
• Effectively provide project updates during internal operating reviews as well as customer direct project reviews;
• Coach and train people in the use of the CPI process and tools;
• Support CPI process and tool improvements;
• Understand and Champion all of the CPI performance metrics;
• Help coordinate CPI community communications;
• Travel as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
• Engineering or Technical degree with a focus on design, product support, quality improvements, or supply chain;
• At least 10 years of experience in Product Support, Product / Process Design & Development, or Product / Process Validation, Quality, Operations, or Supply Chain responsibilities;
• Deep CPI tool and process knowledge;
• Minimum of 5 years working problems/issues across the product lifecycle: VOC, design/development, manufacture, inspection/test, validation, field support planning and publications;
• Very Strong analytical skills – ability to process large amounts of data and synthesize into information. Ability to learn and utilize statistical methodologies;
• Ability to work in a large global organization across multiple-disciplines and product lines;
• Experience with problem solving methodologies including Six Sigma, Shainin, Ishikawa diagrams, 5 whys, 8-D etc.;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment across matrix organizations;
• Ability to influence and inspire people across the business;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
• Exceptional project management skills;
• Must be a result oriented change agent who is an effective business systems thinker. Must be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project;
• Ability to travel as required;

• Recognized expert in the CAT CPI methodologies / process;
• Experience with reliability engineering concepts and techniques;
• Experience coordinating process and tool enhancement projects;
• 6 Sigma experience – Black Belt or Greenbelt Project Lead;
• Shainin Red X experience – certification preferred.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Strength – Position requires lifting of 50lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while installing or repair machinery and components;
• Motion – Position requires standing and/or walking the majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling and climbing of steps and stairs;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. Position is exposed to cutting torches and welding operations. The use of proper PPE is required. The Position requires the ability to read QWI and schematics and understand instructions;
• Work Environment – Position can be located inside or outside, dependent on situation. When inside, the employees are subject to temperature extremes in non‐temperature controlled environments. When outside employees are subject to all weather elements. Employees will work with oils and other.
