Description
The University of Rochester’s Department of Psychiatry is seeking a physician interested in joining our energetic and dedicated primary care and hospitalist team in the Medicine in Psychiatry Division of the Department of Psychiatry. This is a full time position for board certified/board eligible Internists, Family Medicine Physicians or Medicine-Pediatricians to serve as an attending physician, caring for the medical needs of people with severe mental illnesses.
The position will have two different care components divided between the URMC Substance Strong Recovery and Addiction Services in Brighton (50%) and serving as a hospitalist with the Inpatient Medicine in Psychiatry Service units (G92 & 192) at Strong Memorial Hospital/URMC (50%). Patients admitted to these inpatient units may have severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders in addition to acute medical reasons for admission to the general hospital unit. Clinical responsibilities include providing acute inpatient medical care for this patient population through a multidisciplinary team paradigm.
This position includes an academic appointment with University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry at a rank commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and ample opportunities for faculty development within a robust tradition of mentorship. The primary faculty appointments will be with the Department of Psychiatry, with a secondary appointment in the discipline of the physician’s board certification (or eligibility). We encourage applicants with clinical, leadership and/or research experience in healthcare disparities, integrated mental-physical health, geriatrics and addiction medicine to apply.
Teaching and clinical supervision of psychiatric residents and fellows, medical students and other trainees is an integral part of this position, along with involvement in process improvement and program development. For the inpatient component, physicians will be expected to work approximately 14 weeks across the year. When working at the outpatient office, physicians work in half-day clinics, with ample time to address patients’ medical complexities and robust nursing support; call is every 5 weeks and very manageable.
