Description
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting for a surgical pathologist.
The Department provides a very wide range of services, currently accessioning almost 100,000 surgical pathology cases per year from the six hospitals in the University of Rochester’s medical system, including its women’s hospital Highland Hospital. More than 35 anatomic pathologists participate in a fully subspecialized sign out model based at the University’s largest hospital, Strong Memorial. Together, the GYN and breast services are responsible for almost 20,000 surgicals annually, including over 600 consults.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in a program in applied, translational, or basic research. The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment. There are multiple opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty.
Opportunities for teaching are ample: we have ACGME-accredited fellowships in cytology, pediatric pathology, dermatopathology and molecular pathology; and non-ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship positions in surgical pathology, including a subspecialty fellowship in breast/gyn pathology, as well as rotating pathology residents and medical students.
With more than one million people in the metropolitan area, Rochester, NY offers all the cultural, recreational, and educational amenities of a large city, but with nearby open spaces and lakes providing options for lifestyles from urban to rural, all with easy commutes. Post-offer health assessments and drug testing is required to be performed on-site.
Qualifications
Candidates must have completed medical school having an MD, MD-PhD, or equivalent as well as a Subspecialty Fellowship Program and be board certified/eligible in anatomic pathology. Candidates would join the faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with the candidate's experience.
