Description

The Public Safety IT Security Analyst designs and implements IT security systems for the Lynchburg Police Department to include developing organization wide best practices, network monitoring, administration of security software as well as documenting the Police Department's IT security procedures and systems.Essential Duties

Protects information systems by implementing and supporting the department's adaptive security devices, intrusion prevention systems, vulnerability scanning, and other applications or hardware related to IT securityTest and evaluate new technologyAnalyze IT requirements and provide objective advice on the use of IT security requirementsGather feedback from end users to continue to improve systemsSubject to call after hours for system and network operations when required, including nights and weekendsSupports activities aimed at assessing the Police Department's cybersecurity exposure, including conducting security audits, risk assessments, and other efforts to continuously identify areas for improvement. Develop and implement IT security incident response plansProvide assistance to other IT staff as neededADDITIONAL DUTIESWhen unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service deliveryOther duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree with major work in a related field and some (4-8 years) experience in a computer-related field, including experience with implementing security controls and educating others; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
