Job Summary:
Director, Strategic Portfolio Management is responsible for the direction and leadership of the Technology portfolio management function.
The Strategic Portfolio Management team provides guidance to technology leadership and other executives on the timing and anticipated value of initiatives and investments, tracks progress and helps to identify potential conflicts and dependencies to streamline execution. As such, the Director, Strategic Portfolio Management must be able to work closely with senior leaders in an ongoing manner to create, facilitate, engage, maintain, and coordinate the portfolio management activities across the technology organization. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic and foundational goals and objectives. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibility is developing and directing the systems and processes that ensure strategic management of Sysco’s technology portfolio of significant and priority work.
The Director guides the establishment and necessary revisions of standard processes for corporate initiative intake, prioritization, communication of the corporate portfolio, resource deployment, progress monitoring, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the portfolio. This position also includes facilitating the development and management of the corporate dashboard performance measures and monitors portfolio relevance and performance by tracking progress towards measurable targets
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership in the strategic planning process - giving guidance, advice and input into the organization's ability to realize the strategies through investment appraisals, prioritization and resource planning.
Responsible for aligning the technology portfolio of work to the business strategy. Thought leader and change agent in the establishment of org- wide strategy for unified portfolio, program and project management
Provides regular updates on portfolio performance and value delivery. Implement standards and structures for monitoring progress against defined outcome measures. Develop and continuously improve tools to support technology leaders in monitoring progress towards strategic outcome targets
Continuously improve portfolio processes and systems to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
Continuously improve processes to support nimbleness.
Implement standards and structures to support portfolio development and execution, including cross-functional huddles to give line of sight and support coordination across the portfolio of initiatives.
Hires, leads, manages, coaches, develops and evaluates direct and indirect reports
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area
Education Preferred:
Master’s degree
Experience Required:
8-10 years relevant experience in the management of strategic portfolio, strategic execution and/or program/project delivery services.
At least 3 years' experience in quantitative portfolio management; leading and managing largescale programs and knowledgeable of agile models
At least 2 years of experience negotiating with outside vendors, including negotiating contracts, prices, resolving service issues and reconciling differences
Experience developing strategic initiatives that align with business goals and budget
Experience working with technology organization - including teams in software development, infrastructure, digital, data management, and others
At least 3 years managing 5+ person teams
Experience Preferred:
Experience with SPM platform like Planview
Experience implementing business process, protocols and best practices.
Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at various levels of the organization, such as peers, internal/external stakeholders, business partners, senior level managers, executives.
Experience influencing stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
Licenses/Certification Preferred:
Certification in Project Management (PMP) as granted by PMI preferred
Skills and Abilities:
MS Office Suite with strong proficiency in PowerPoint, data visualization/story telling by numbers.
Experience with SPM tool, preferably Planview
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to
negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams.
Demonstrated creativity and flexibility.
